Jurassic Tours – Trip Review

I have lived here on the Jurassic Coast for a long time and it still amazes me how much of it I’ve never experience, my case in point the Jurassic Coast from the sea.

I was really lucky recently to spend the morning with Jurassic Tours on one of their kayaking tours, I have to say it was truly one of the best mornings out I have had in the UK ever.

The day started at 9am with Ken our guide for the morning, kitting us out in all the safety gear, shoes, helmets and shortie wetsuit, it was a blue sky and hot day, perfect conditions for it, one word of warning though take high factor sun screen it's a must.

Athelhampton House & Gardens

Manor House in Dorchester

Beautiful Dorchester manor house set in grade one listed gardens.

Athelhampton House dates back to 1485 when Sir William Martyn built the hall surrounded by a 160 acre deer park. The house remained within the Martyn family for a further four generations and is now owned by Patrick Cooke and his wife Andrea. Athelhampton has seen many famous guests including Thomas Hardy who eternalized the house in his watercolour painting Athelhall and whose poem The Dame of Athelhall is set in the grounds.

The fifteenth century house demonstrates beautiful Tudor architecture and is also rumoured to be haunted by several ghosts including two duellists, the grey lady and a monkey! Alongside restorations to the house the formal gardens were introduced in 1891, which have now evolved to feature ponds, a warren of walled gardens and most famously the Great Court with its towering pyramid Yews, some of which conceal love seats.
